Dark Rust is a minimal, darkwave musician who needed atmospheric photography to reflect his style of music. I used UV lighting, paint and tape in the studio to evoke the feeling of his music.

I used 2x UV LED Blacklights, one above the camera light the keyboard, the other behind the musician, backlighting the smoke. The LED's were only 36W, they gave a great affect but were still low light so I used a high ISO, low F-stop, the camera was on a tripod and the musician had to stay still. I had 6 coloured tapes, he chose 2 and we lined the keyboard and replicted those colours on hs face with the paints. As this was a low light shoot, I used an Artic White backdrop and was happy to silhouette him against it. The smoke gave a great texture and club like feeling.

Camera: Canon R5     Lenses: Canon 16-35 ii f2.8 and 85 f1.8     ISO: 2000-800 Shutter: 1/60

Editing process: DxO PureRAW Prime to denoise and export DNG to LR Classic, applied Color Fidelity Fine profile, exported PSD to Photoshop to edit out any lightstands and edges of backdrops, applied a little sharpening
