Cliques-feat-Grim-Sickers-Back-Up-Music-Video-by-Brighton-Videographer-&-Cinematographer-Emma-Bailey-DoP

Back Up ft Grim Sickers – Music Video

Back Up ft Grim Sickers from drum n’bass trio Cliques is a Brighton music video shot/light/cut by me and filmed at The Old Market on the hottest day of the year. We only had a few hours in the theatre to shoot the trio, the rapper Grim Sickers, the fire performer Lily Fortune and the contortionst Twisted Nymph. The theatre’s lighting tech Dan Walker was going up and down the ladders all day moving the lights around. We filmed it […]

Jack-Valero-Brighton Musician Music Photographer Emma Bailey Photography. Light painting on black background.

Jack Valero

I used light painting to capture Brighton-based musician Jack Valero for his debut album. Jack wanted a different look to the usual singer-songwriter photography and light painting is an abstract and playful median to show Jack and his music. It was a hot, bright day when we blacked out the studio, so as to stop any light leaks. A 60secs exposure can show any light that is in the frame. Jack was very calm and patient whilst I repeatedly light […]

Amies-Freedom-Choir-perform-for-Anti-Slavery-International-Video-by-Brighton-Emma-Bailey-Videographer

Amies Freedom Choir

Anti-Slavery International asked me to create videos of the Amies Freedom Choir for their Annual Supporter Meeting. It was an absolute privilege to witness the power of these survivors. I was moved to tears many times during filming and the edit. Anti-Slavery International is the world’s oldest human rights organisation, founded in 1839, campaigning for freedom from slavery for everyone, everywhere, always. The choir aims to develop the musical and cultural awareness of young women who have survived trafficking by […]

Emily-Pocock-Brighton Musician photography by Photographer Emma Bailey with smoke and fabric

Emily Pocock

I used a smoke machine and fabric on this recent collaboration with Emily Pocock, a young Brighton musician, to create atmospheric imagery for her music. Emily also has trained in dance, which added great movement to the shoot. I made a playist of music she liked in advance, so she had a good atmosphere to work with. I used 2 x Arri 800w as backlights and placed the smoke machine in the middle. Occasionally using a 3xAstra LED light above […]

Dark Rust-Brighton Musician UV Photography by Photographer Emma Bailey

Dark Rust

Dark Rust is a minimal, darkwave musician who needed atmospheric photography to reflect his style of music. I used UV lighting, paint and tape in the studio to evoke the feeling of his music. I used 2x UV LED Blacklights, one above the camera light the keyboard, the other behind the musician, backlighting the smoke. The LED’s were only 36W, they gave a great affect but were still low light so I used a high ISO, low F-stop, the camera […]

Third circle recordings-brighton property photography by photographer Emma Bailey

Third Circle Recordings

I photographed the colourful delight that is James Gasson’s refurbed Third Circle Recordings, a music recording/rehearsal studio in Brighton. The property photography took 4hrs+ to capture the various lighting set ups and the composites. The wide shots were photographed with a 16mm at f8 400 ISO, with various shutter speeds to accommodate the practical tungsten bulbs that were there. The remit was designed mostly around the colourful LED’s which he had painstakingly built into the rehearsal room ceiling. I took […]

Dreams-of-Empire-Brighton Band Music Photography by Photographer Emma Bailey

Dreams of Empire – Band Photography

During the first lockdown, Dreams of Empire, an indiepop Brighton band, wrote a new album. They needed some creative band photography for all their marketing and we devised a shoot based on their colourful and calming music. The band were photographed in front of a white backdrop using 2 x large soft boxes, modelling lights only, one was gelled with minus green and the other with steel blue. We wanted a dream like quality for this band photography, so I […]
